Hi guys, am currently building a trayback at the moment. Am planning on putting the fuel tank between the chassis legs just behind the rear bulkhead. Ino that the fuel tank must "have a sealed metal cover." Just wanting some clariffication really, what exactly does this mean? Does this basically mean that it just needs to be encased in a metal box? Cheers Pete

Not sure where you are getting this requirement from, the only one I know of is the MSA regs which from memory does not allow a fuel tank to be in the passenger compartment unless it is in a sealed metal cover.
And this metal covering is to prevent fuel or vapour reaching the passenger compartment and the sealing only has to be to the passenger compartment

So I would expect with a trayback (and truck cab) and it being behind the rear bulkhead it would not be in the passenger compartment, so metal box not needed (but you might want do a sort of tank guard to protect it from getting damaged from underneath - depending on it's exact location but that would not have to be sealed)

As above really. As long as you can't see the fuel tank for panel work it seems to pass. And if it is behind the cab and is diesel, just a bare tank seems enough?

Mine is petrol and I dont have a back window, so I made an ally tank with a 4mm bottom, 3mm sides and a big bolt on lid. Then I made a second 2mm tank and put it into the first with foam to hold it in place. Which hopefully makes it double water proof, acts as a bund, and really should give more time if fires up :smile

Only photo I have of it;
