As saunas go it was definitely not in the Premier league. A rickety wooden shed, a battered door on great rusty hinges and a stone flagged floor. Well scrubbed wooden trestles to sit on, a brick built stove with a couple of chipped and stained enamel basins on top and most curious of all a 2 foot square window that looked out on to the muddy main street.

Snow…. but mobile.

It is assumed that most folk perusing this electronic missive will be at least interested in 4x4’s but more likely an aficionado or possibly addicted. That being so then the recent bouts of snowy weather will have once again allowed you to reinforce your long held belief that 4x4 is the only way to travel. It also means that all those who love to trash 4x4 users have, momentarily at least, to hold their waspish tongues. Obviously (?) with drifts of 3 or 4 feet even 4x4 drivers have to accept that there are limitations to what they can do. The owner of a local 13 plate Ford Ranger might have wished he’d read this piece prior to his attempt to negotiate just such a drift, but in the main with some careful thought about routes and some sensible, occasionally edging towards lunatic, driving 4x4’s can usually do the business.

One Special Stage and 40 punches lay ahead, some of which were heavily taped more like mini stages than traditional punch hunt style. This enabled the organisers to encompass more of the varied terrain and obstacles that the Week Farm site provides making the teams have to work harder for their goal. Much of the site although relatively dry is covered in deep leaf mulch which once you spin your wheels takes you down to a very slippery surface below. Added to this the steep slopes, fallen trees and boggy areas near the stream there was plenty of variety to get your teeth into.

There was a time when Land Rovers were an indispensable part of many industries. Farming obviously, the military, quarrying, civil engineering, and haulage to name just a few. For me it is a real sadness that is no longer always the case, particularly so in the case of the military. It can’t just be me who thinks the Army without Land Rovers....................

Whilst on the Dakar Cpl Neathway got to experience some of the latest in racing technology. Including the lights produced by Lazer Lamps Ltd.

On returning from the Dakar Cpl Thomas Neathway got in contact with Lazer lamps and asked how he could get their lights on to his own vehicle.

20 Questions! Inside the mind of Ian Woolley

Mudrut was founded by Ian Woolley, a Lantra-qualified 4x4 driving coach with a thirteen-year history of Land Rover addiction. He is a keen explorer of unbeaten tracks throughout Europe with an affinity for the High Arctic. Ian's truck of choice is a 2008 Defender Utility, but his heart belongs to 'Lara', a 2001 Tomb Raider Edition Defender. He is a keen outdoorsman and would live full time in his tipi if there was room for his collection of Gransfors Bruks Axes.

A member of the Parachute Regiment since 2001, Tom is a veteran of multiple tours of Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. On his last tour of Afghanistan in 2008, Tom triggered a booby trap while covering his platoon moving forward. The blast took off both of his feet and the severity of his wounds and a resulting infection led to the amputation of both of Tom’s legs and his left arm. A true testament to his character, Tom claims he is “as crazy today as he was before his injuries.” Tom still works within the Parachute Regiment, is a navigator in Race2Recovery, recently carried the Olympic torch through his home town and is an inspirational character to all those fortunate enough to meet him.
  From feedback recently received, SP1
it has been confirmed that fitting
  SuperPro suspension bushes can
  significantly reduce tyre wear. The
reports relate to two similar cars:
one used for competition and the
  other used for day-to-day driving
  on the road.
