Range Rover Bobtail

After having competed on the 99 Rainforest Challenge of Malaysia with my trusty 200tdi Defender 90 it became obvious that for this type of event a longer wheel base and more power would be an advantage so project Range Rover was born. A Range Rover was chosen because it had a perfect 100 inch wheel base, it was a V8 and most importantly it was affordable and I had a solid 2 door sitting in my yard.

I must point out that this vehicle was built in 2000 in our old work shops, we didn't posess a plasma cutter or a tig in fact we had very little specialist equipment, we didn't even have a ramp because we had no head room. I have however decided to include the Rangie build for two reasons, the first is because of the phenomenal interest it has received over the years and secondly to show what can be achieved with minimal equipment. The donor vehicle was purchased from a friend who had used it for trialling, it was a remarkably solid 1981 2 door with a few battle scares.
