Hi all
me and my mate in his 110 and me in my 90 are coming up from the south. We have allways wanted to do this lane, especially with all the youtube vids we keep watching and being my birthday on the 30th i thought it would make a cracking bday. Were thinking of staying in a local travel lodge for the night.

The plan is to be in the wales area nice and early around 8-9, hit some of the trails onto pub then to travel lodge or whatever then up early out the next morn till lunch and head home. I would very much appreciate it if anyone could give us some advice on what to expect, also any local knowlege would be good or and gps ref points would be the best for any other lanes in the area, nearest hotels anything really many thanks

by the way we do have suffieient recovery gear etc and are allways respectfull of where we go

You might want to wait and see how bad the forecast snow pans out before attempting Strata or any of the other isolated lanes in Mid Wales. If its as bad as forecast you might not want to be there.  Shocked

Ditto Mr Farmer....given that it's pretty wet atm there may be a wee bit of water in the Strata, and on some of the crossings it flows quite quickly, we went thru' it during the summer and on the first trip up there was only 10" of water - v. nice .....next day it was raining and there was a good 24 - 30" of water at some points.

If you do go, do everyone a favour and stick to the mapped route, cos with all the video's and chat on forums plus the visible ground damage from people going way "off piste" it will soon be closed.

One lane that may keep you out of mischief is "motel hill".....going up

hi all thanks for posting. Well we made it, snow by the truck load managed to do 3 lanes cant remember names of the other 2 but strata florida was the third.
We tryed to get across to the reservoir lane at 7:30 pm very dark up there but due to just not being able to power through the snow drifts (he's not kidding above bonnet deep above) we had to turn back. we almost had to do this about a mile from the end of strata florida due to 3 massive fallen trees but as luck would have it the td5 managed to pull them out the way just enough to get through.

it was a good day and some night time greenlaning shame we did not get to appreciate the views as i mean everything was in a good metre of thick snow i could not of even told you where the bombhole was or anything it was so bad.

One lucky and i mean lucky bloke had his first taste of greenlaning. As all the roads up there were completely covered with snow. so half stranded this bloke with nan in tow lol, decides to follow some tire tracks thinking "ahh look we will follow them off the mountain". little did he know they were are tracks leading to the start of strata florida ha ha. he managed to catch us at the first river crossing as we had stoped. trying to decide if we should carry on as it was a proper blizard happening. We let him tag along with us and rescued him when needed. i think we got on the lane at around 3:30 and got off around 7, the bloke was so happy he took us all for a drink, and the nan who was very scared at first said she loved it all in good day

So this confused guy wasnt put off by having to get out of his car to open and then close the gate Huh before the first river crossing ?? which is the one after the long section full of watery holes and the climb up the hard rocks ??

I have all the start and finish references to all the Green Lanes in Ceredigion(Cardiganshire) as I am employed by the Council every year to check them all - with a Council Green Lane Officer in the pass. seat. If I can be of any assistance to anyone out there just contact me - but I am not allowed to print these publicly. Ceredigion is probably one of the few Counties - if not the only one - that wants to keep these lanes open. 4 years ago there were 52, unfortunately some have had to be closed every year due mother nature taking her toll, and sometimes because of irate 'newcomers' in their summer homes creating so much fuss about legal rights of way, it's cheaper to stop acces. Yet another Green Lane bites the dust!
