Jeep TJ Upgrades
Jeep on beachThe customer brief was very simple.. “Build me a car I can take my mates to the beach in, and that people will look at !”    The base vehicle, a Jeep TJ was delivered from Switzerland to the Devon 4x4 workshops for a full makeover and upgrade.

Basic Spec
2003 Jeep Wrangler TJ, 4.0 Litre automatic.  Left hand drive.

Wheels & Tyres
35x12.50 R 17 Pro Comp X-terrain tyres give a nice balance between on road manners, off-road performance and looks.  Fitted to 17” polished Mickey Thompson ‘Classic Lock’ alloys.

Suspension
The vehicle sits on a 4” Rubicon Express short-arm suspension package.  Coupled with a 1” body lift, there is plenty of clearance for the 35” rubber.  Rubicon kit provides excellent handling and comfort with gas-charged dampers and detachable sway bars for off-road use.

Axles
To cope with the increase in tyre size, it was necessary to change the ratios of the differentials.  Genuine Gear ring & pinion sets were fitted in both axles at 4.56 : 1.  This leaves the overall drivetrain ratio near the original specification.

Protection
Warn Rock Crawler front bumper provides frontal protection and also a secure winch mount.  The rear bumper is also a Warn Rock Crawler series and includes a heavy duty spare wheel mount for the large wheel and tyre combination. Front Bumper and Winch

Winch
The Jeep is fitted with a Warn 9.5si winch.  This winch is almost completely sealed against the elements and the electronic control pack contains no moving parts, making the chances of failure even smaller.  The black powder coat finish and soft lines of the winch complement the vehicle design.

Lighting
ARB IPF900XS driving lights provide huge amounts of illumination up-front.  Grey powder coat finish complements vehicle.

Body Styling
Bushwacker 6” flares provide coverage for the extra width of the wheel & tyre package, whilst tubular side steps provide easier vehicle access and side protection.  The rear corners and side panels of the vehicle are covered with protective chequer plate panels.

Engine
The engine is as per the standard vehicle with a stainless sports exhaust system.  A safari snorkel finishes off the vehicle and protects the engine against water ingress.
