110 Trayback / Fuel tank mounting
Given that we needed a range in excess of 500Kms we needed a large fuel tank so it was decided that we would use a pair of standard 90 tanks as our main fuel storage which again would help keep our C of G low, the trade off was we would loose ground clearance between the front and rear wheels which was a small price to pay in comparison to having the weight of the fuel tank above the chassis line. To fit the tanks required quite a lot of modification, the first of which was to remove the outriggers at the rear of the cab and replace them with the tubular style out riggers found on the 90. I ordered a couple of copies of the genuine parts from a supplier but whilst they would have been fine for a normal road going vehicle they were never going to be man enough for the task in hand so what do you do? Make your own, you need to select the correct diameter tube and some box section and the rest is pretty simple.
Fitting of the right hand tank in straight forward all the brackets and fitting kit is that of a 90 however there are some modifications required for the left hand side and the first is to cut out a gentle radius from the out rigger webbing.
The front mounting for the left hand tank has to be fabricated. We will return to the fitting of the fuel tanks themselves later.
